First Eucharist

At Saint John XXIII,  we invite our second graders to begin their preparation for First Eucharist in January of their second grade year, using a "coaching method."  All classes take place on Monday evenings at 7:00 p.m. beginning January 15, 2018. 

Program Requirements: 

  • Participation in Faith Alive! beginning in the fall of the school year that First Eucharist classes take place. (Not required if child is attending a Catholic school)

  • Eight coaching sessions your with child beginning in January (one parent present each time).  (Optional if child is attending a Catholic school)

  • Two parent sessions with Fr. Herb.  (babysitting provided for younger siblings.) 

  • Interview with Fr. Herb (children will receive First Reconciliation individually at this time) 

  • "Jesus Night" Retreat - April 30 - 7:00 - 8:45 p.m. (Babysitting provided) 

  • Weekly attendance at Sunday Mass 

  • Involvement in parish life

  • First Communion will be made at St. John XXIII

It is expected that households with children will continue their initation process beginning at Baptism by enrolling their children in Faith Alive! when they enter Kindergarten and First Grade.

Active participation in Faith Alive! at least one year before enrolling in First Eucharist preparation is expected. Exceptions to this requirement will be made at the discretion of the Life-long Faith Formation Director and the Pastor.

If you have an older child who would like to prepare for First Eucharist, please contact Marla Overholt and we will design something for your needs.
