Take the next step
OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) is the standard process for adults who wish to explore joining the Catholic Church.
OCIA is about the formation of a person in the Catholic faith as much as providing information about the Catholic church. Sessions involve prayer and personal reflection.
Sessions typically begin in September and cover a variety of topics.
Each participant will have a sponsor, someone who lives the Catholic faith, as a personal mentor or coach. These sponsors need not be expert theologians but must truly practice their faith. If the participant has difficulty finding a personal sponsor, the parish will provide one.
OCIA is not merely about becoming Catholic, but it emphasizes listening to the plan that God has for each person.
Those who enter OCIA do not necessarily have to have made a commitment to joining the Catholic Church. Rather, the commitment is to exploring the Catholic Church. No one is ever forced to join the Church; we also encourage families not to put pressure on anyone since the decision needs to be made in freedom.
