I keep running into updates. Every app I have seems to be updated with great regularity. Most of the changes are imperceptible, but others are major. I have to wait while some updates claim my phone or tablet. Others take place in moments.

I can understand how companies want to change or improve their products. I also start to wonder about other updates that we face in life. Geography is far from the same as what I learned in school. There are new countries, new names, and new types of political leadership. Even more so, science is always being updated. And anyone my age can recall the “new math” that was an update some years ago, which that math itself has been updated many times since.

However, I wonder if we are willing to update our attitudes towards things, to learn new behaviors, and to see things differently. Sometimes bias or prejudice seems to hang on, mostly based on faulty information. Maybe we need more updates, not fewer.

“I give you a new commandment: love one another.

As I have loved you, so you also should love one another.”
